St. Kateri Tekakwitha, Virgin; St. Camillus de Lellis, Priest and Religious Founder
Is 6: 1- 8 / Mt 10: 24- 33
St. Kateri Tekakwitha (1656 - 1680), daughter of a Mohawk warrior, dedicated her life to prayer, penance and the care of the sick and the aged. She is called, "the Lily of the Mohawks."
St. Camillus de Lellis (1550 - 1614), of a noble Italian family, founded the Ministers of the Sick (Camillians) which received papal approval in 1586.
1ST READING: Is 6: 1 - 8
In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted; the train of his robe filled the Temple. Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: two to cover the face, two to cover the feet, and two to fly with. They were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is Yahweh Sabaoth. All the earth is filled with his Glory."
At the sound of their voices the foundations of the threshold shook and the Temple was filled with smoke. I said, "Poor me! I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips living among people of unclean lips, and yet I have seen the King, Yahweh Sabaoth."
Then one of the seraphs flew to me; in his hands was a live coal which he had taken with tongs from the altar. He touched my mouth with it and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin is forgiven."
Then I heard the voice of the Lord, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" I answered, "Here I am. Send me!"
From the Gospel Reading: Mt 10: 28- 31
Jesus said, "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but have no power to kill the soul. Rather be afraid of him who can destroy both body and soul in hell. For only a few cents you can buy two sparrows, yet not one sparrow falls to the ground without your Father's consent. As for you, every hair of your head has been counted. So do not be afraid: you are worth much more than many sparrows."
In the first reading we see the Prophet Isaiah called and missioned by God to teach the people about God. Isaiah, cleansed, generously replies, "Here I am. Send me!"
Are we ready like Isaiah to be his instruments in proclaiming his Word to all? Are we willing to be led by God wherever he wishes us to go?
In the Gospel reading Jesus assures us of the care and love of the heavenly Father for each one of us, "For only a few cents you can buy two sparrows, yet not one sparrow falls to the ground without your Father's consent. ... So do not be afraid: you are worth much more than many sparrows." We pray that we truly trust our heavenly Father: Why should we doubt? Why should we be afraid?
WE PRAY FOR MTQ DAILY PRAYER INTENTIONS:
