MEMORIAL, ST. ELIZABETH OF HUNGARY, RELIGIOUS

NOVEMBER 17, 2006
MEMORIAL, ST. ELIZABETH OF HUNGARY, RELIGIOUS
FRIDAY 32ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - YEAR II

2 JOHN 4-9
[Chosen Lady:] I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children
walking in the truth just as we were commanded by the Father. But
now, Lady, I ask you, not as though I were writing a new commandment
but the one we have had from the beginning: let us love one another.
For this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this
is the commandment, as you heard from the beginning, in which you
should walk. Many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who
do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh; such is the
deceitful one and the antichrist. Look to yourselves that you do not
lose what we worked for but may receive a full recompense. Anyone
who is so "progressive" as not to remain in the teaching of the
Christ does not have God; whoever remains in the teaching has the
Father and the Son.

LUKE 17:26-37
Jesus said to his disciples: "As it was in the days of Noah, so it
will be in the days of the Son of Man; they were eating and
drinking, marrying and giving in marriage up to the day that Noah
entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
Similarly, as it was in the days of Lot: they were eating, drinking,
buying, selling, planting, building; on the day when Lot left Sodom,
fire and brimstone rained from the sky to destroy them all. So it
will be on the day the Son of Man is revealed. On that day, someone
who is on the housetop and whose belongings are in the house must
not go down to get them, and likewise one in the field must not
return to what was left behind. Remember the wife of Lot. Whoever
seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will
save it. I tell you, on that night there will be two people in one
bed; one will be taken, the other left. And there will be two women
grinding meal together; one will be taken, the other left." They
said to him in reply, "Where, Lord?" He said to them, "Where the
body is, there also the vultures will gather."

REFLECTION
Most of us would like to lead lives in a predictable routine. As
much as possible we'd like a life where there is little disruption
or interference to our usual routine. We try to minimize problems
and work hard to avoid new ones. We aim for the stress-free life.

Jesus warns us, however, that the pursuit of comfort and routine can
and will blind us to the more important things in life. The stories
behind Noah and Lot serve as examples of what happens when we ignore
events around us.

We know Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth and died for us. We
know He was raised from the dead and ascended into heaven. Yet,
even as we know, even as we acknowledge His revelation to us, how
much do we truly act out our faith and beliefs in Him?

We need to be reminded not to take Jesus for granted. Perhaps we
feel that since we were baptized and hear Mass every Sunday, we have
a head start to a place in heaven. Nothing could be further from
the truth; we may not realize how far we really are from God.

Today, let us examine our consciences and evaluate where we are as
Christians. How much do we listen and reflect on the Word during
Mass? How close are we to God? Do we review our relationship with
Christ? How often? What signs can we see today, in our family,
communities and in the world? How are we responding to these signs?

PRAYER REQUESTS
We pray ...
- for a deep and profound respect for life, especially for the
unborn.
- for the personal intentions of Stefanie.
- for the personal intention and discernment of Trinna.
- for the eternal repose of the soul of Ato. Eternal rest grant
unto him and may perpetual light shine upon him. May he and all the
souls of the dearly departed rest in peace. May his loving family
be granted the grace of consolation.
- for the mother of Bing Casingal for speedy recovery
- for all the prayer intentions in the MTQ Dailyprayer Diary.
- Wedding Anniversary: Isabelle & Anthony Ng
- for world peace and reconciliation.

Finally, we pray for one another, for those who have asked our
prayers and for those who need our prayers the most.

Have a good day!
