SATURDAY, 6th Week of Easter

May 12, 2018 – SATURDAY, 6th Week of Easter

Sts. Nereus and Achilleus, Martyrs

St. Pancras, Martyr

White

.

Acts 18: 23 - 28 / Jn 16: 23b- 28

Sts. Nereus and Achilleus were Roman soldiers martyred in 304 for their faith during the reign of Emperor Trajan.

St. Pancras was martyred in 304 at the age of 14.

FROM THE 1ST READING:             Acts 18: 27- 28

As Apollos wished to go to Achaia, the believers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. When he arrived, he greatly strengthened those who, by God's grace, had become believers, for he vigorously refuted the Jews, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Messiah.

GOSPEL READING:           Jn 16: 23b- 28

Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my Name, he will give you. So far you have not asked in my Name; ask and receive that your joy may be full.

"I taught you all this in veiled language, but the time is coming when I shall no longer speak in veiled language, but will tell you plainly of the Father.

"When that day comes, you will ask in my Name and it will not be for me to ask the Father for you, for the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and you believe that I came from the Father. As I came from the Father and have come into the world, so I am leaving the world and going to the Father."

REFLECTION

In tfie first reading we see the spread of preachers of the Good News and the increase of believers in Jesus. Apollos was a fervent believer in Jesus.

In the Gospel reading Jesus reiterates his teaching about the efficacy of prayer: "Truly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my Name, he will give you." The Father will answer our prayers in Jesus' Name not only because he loves the Son but also because the Father himself loves each one of us.

We should not hesitate to pray and to ask the Father for all that we need. Through prayer we get closer to God. Through prayer we show our trust and confidence in his fatherly love and care for each one of us.

Jesus tells us that the Father will give us anything we ask in his Name: do we really believe this?

WE PRAY FOR MTQ DAILY PRAYER INTENTIONS:

IN MEMORIAM (+)

     Maurino Syquio Joson

     Joaquin Cunanan (12 May 1910-23 Jun 1989)

Finally, we pray for one another, for those who have asked our prayers and for those who need our prayers the most.

Have a good day!
