Memorial. Red.
Rv 22: 1 - 7 / Lk 21: 34- 36
Sts. Edmund Campion (1540 - 1581) and Robert Southwell (1561 - 1595), Jesuit priests, were among Forty Martyrs of England and Wales of the 16th and
17th centuries canonized by Pope Bl. Paul VI in 1970.
Bl. Roger Filcock (1570 - 1601) and Robert Middleton (1571 - 1601), Jesuit priests, were also martyrs of England of the late 16th century.
FROM THE 1ST READING: Rv 22: 3 - 5
No longer will there be a curse; the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the City and God's servants will live in his presence. They will see his face and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of lamp or sun for God himself will be their light and they will reign forever.
FROM THE GOSPEL READING: Lk 21: 34- 36,
Jesus said to his disciples, "Be on your guard; let not your hearts be weighed down with a life of pleasure, drunkenness and worldly cares, lest that day catch you suddenly as a trap. For it will come upon all the inhabitants of the whole earth. But watch at all times and pray, that you may be able to escape all that is bound to happen and to stand before the Son of Man."
REFLECTION
In the first reading we are told that the after-life with God will be a new life, in the light and presence of God. "God's servants will live in his [God's] presence. They will see his face and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night." What could be better or brighter or more joyful than "to see the face of God"?
In the Gospel reading we are told to be ready at all times. We are told not to be drunk or become men of the flesh and pleasure. We are to pray at all times and to live spiritual lives. If we stop being selfish and self-centered, proud and greedy, we can focus more on the life of the spirit.
God is love and is always loving and giving. We are to receive his love and also be generous in giving to others. Life is short. Time given us is very valuable. Let us always behave as children of the loving heavenly Father.
FINALLY, WE PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER, FOR THOSE WHO HAVE ASKED OUR PRAYERS AND FOR THOSE WHO NEED OUR PRAYERS THE MOST.
Have a good day!
