MONDAY, 13TH Week in Ordinary Time

July 2, 2018 – MONDAY, 13TH Week in Ordinary Time

Sts. Bernardine Realino, John Francis Regis and Francis de Geronimo, Priests I

Bl. Julian Maunoir and Anthony Baldinucci, Priests

Memorial. White.

Am 2: 6 - 10, 13 - 16 / Mt 8: 18 - 22

Today's memorial is of Jesuit priests, saints and blessed, who faithfully served the Church in Europe: Sts. Bernardine Realino (1530 - 1616), an Italian; Frenchman John Francis Regis (1597- 1640); Italian Francis de Geronimo (1642 - 1716); and Bl. Julian Maunoir (1606 - 1683), French; and Anthony Baldinucci (1665- 1717), Italian.

FROM THE 1ST READING:             Am 2: 6- 8

Yahweh says this, "Because Israel has sinned, not once but three times and even more I will not relent. They sell the just for money and the needy for a pair of sandals; they tread on the head of the poor and trample them upon the dust of the earth, while they silence the right of the afflicted; a man and his father go to the same woman to profane my holy name; they stretch out upon garments taken in pledge, beside every altar; they take the wine of those they swindle and are drunk in the house of their God."

FROM THE GOSPEL READING:     Mt 8: 18- 22

When Jesus saw the crowd press around him, Jesus gave orders to cross to the other side. A teacher of the Law approached him and said, "Master, I will follow you wherever you go." Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head."

Another disciple said to him, "Lord, let me go and bury my father first." But Jesus answered him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."

REFLECTION

In the first reading Yahweh decides to punish Israel for their continuing many sins and infidelities.

In the Gospel reading Jesus tells us that following him means putting God and God's wishes above all others, as the cause and end of all our choices and actions.

We make choices and decisions every day of our lives: large and life changing, small and insignificant. What will I do for life? Whom will I marry? How much time do I waste at work today? What clothes will I wear today?

How do we make these choices and decisions?

To follow Jesus does not mean to be an ordained minister in the Church or to be truly active in the parish. To follow Jesus means to do the best I can in living out his Gospel message in my life, whatever my life may be.

What is God's will for me in my life? What is God's will for me today? How do

I show love of God today? How do I show love for neighbor today?

WE PRAY FOR MTQ DAILY PRAYER INTENTIONS:

IN MEMORIAM (+)

Beatrice Lim Le Hun Co Chan (23 Dec 1928 - 02 Jut 2007)

Finally, we pray for one another, for those who have asked our prayers and for those who need our prayers the most.

Have a good day!
