FRIDAY, 29th Week in Ordinary Time

October 26, 2018 – FRIDAY, 29th Week in Ordinary Time

Green.

Eph 4: 1- 6 / Lk 12: 54 -59

1ST READING:    Eph 4: 1 – 6

Therefore I, a prisoner of Christ, invite you to live the vocation you have received. Be humble, kind, patient, and bear with one another in love..

Make every effort to keep among you the unity of Spirit through bonds of peace. Let there be one body and one spirit, for God, in calling you, gave the same Spirit to all. One Lord, one faith, one baptism. One God, the Father of all, who is above all and works through all and is in all.

GOSPEL READING:           Lk 12: 54- 59

Jesus said to the crowds, "When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once: 'A shower is coming.' And so it happens. And when the wind blows from the south, you say: 'It will be hot,' and so it is.

"You superficial people! You understand the signs of the earth and the sky, but you don't understand the present times. And why do you not judge for yourselves what is fit? When you go with your accuser before the court, try to settle the case on the way, lest he drag you before the judge and the judge deliver you to the jailer, and the jailer throw you into prison. I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the very last penny.''

REFLECTION

The Gospel reading today tells us how important it is to read or interpret the present time.

In today's fast-paced world we seem to find all information we need by a fast click in the internet: what is the latest news? what is the latest fashion trend? what other data do we wish to know?

Unfortunately the internet cannot tell us about our life and how to live it. The internet does not give us answers to our problems and concerns. Somehow we have to discern and find solutions to our own problems.

The Gospel reading challenges us to look for signs which truly matter in our key concerns. The Gospel reading tells us that we have to learn to look for God's will in our lives. We are asked to be more discerning in the signs we follow, in the voices we listen to, in the choices we make. We are called to be aware of Christ's commandments, when needed to have a change of heart today and not to wait for tomorrow, to forgive and reconcile when necessary.

We also need to pray to ask for God's guidance and for the Holy Spirit to help us.

In the first reading Paul writes to assure us of God's abiding presence and Spirit in all of us.

The time is now: signs are everywhere. We need only to open our eyes and ears and most especially our hearts to God's quiet inspirations and invitations.

Have a good day!
