SATURDAY, Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary

June 9, 2018 – SATURDAY, Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Memorial. White.

2 Tm 4: 1 - 8 / Lk 2: 41 -51

Now celebrated on the day after the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, this memorial has its roots from the life and apostolate of St. John Eudes (1601 - 1680) for the promotion of devotion to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. On the twenty-fifth anniversary (1938) of the apparitions of Our Lady in Fatima, Pope Pius XII dedicated the Church and the human race to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

FROM THE 1ST READING:             2 Tm 4:1 - 2, 6- 8

In the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by the hope I have of his coming and his kingdom, I urge you to preach the Word, in season and out of season, reproving, rebuking of advising, always with patience and providing instruction....

As for me the time of sacrifice has arrived, and the moment of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness with which the Lord, the just Judge, will receive me on that day; and not only me but all those who have longed for his glorious coming.

FROM THE GOSPEL READING:     Lk 2: 48- 51

His parents were very surprised when they saw him and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I were very worried while searching for you." Then he said to them, "Why were you looking for me? Do you not know that I must be in my Father's house? " But they did not understand this answer.

Jesus went down with them, returning to Nazareth, and he continued to be subject to them. As for his mother, she kept all these things in her heart.

REFLECTION

Like Timothy in the first reading, we are urged to remain faithful and to persevere in preaching God's Word to all. We are encouraged not to be afraid of any inconvenience or persecution as we proclaim God's Word. Paul assures us of God's eternal reward with him.

As we celebrate today the Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary we are reminded of Mary's love for Jesus, for God and for all of us. May the love of Mary's Immaculate Heart be a model and inspiration for the way we should love God and our fellows.

As Mary's heart was pure and most loving, we pray that we may imitate her. We honor our Mother Mary for having shown us how to love with a total and encompassing love. May we be true sons and daughters of our Mother Mary.

WE PRAY FOR MTQ DAILY PRAYER INTENTIONS:
