1 Cor 7: 25 – 31 / Lk 6: 20 – 26
Gospel Reading: Lk 6:20– 26
Then lifting up his eyes to his disciples, Jesus said, "Fortunate are you who are poor, the kingdom of God is yours. Fortunate are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled. Fortunate are you who weep now, for you will laugh. Fortunate are you when people hate you, when they reject you and insult you and number you among criminals, because of the Son of Man.
"Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for a great reward is kept for you in heaven. Remember that is how the ancestors of this people treated the prophets.
"But alas for you who have wealth, for you have been comforted now. Alas for you who are full, for you will go hungry. Alas for you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. Alas for you when people speak well of you, for that is how the ancestors of these people treated the false prophets."
Reflection
2015 was the Year of the Poor. The theme of the visit of Pope Francis to the Philippines was mercy and compassion, especially to those who need to be enriched. This is not only limited to the poor and less fortunate, but also for those who have suffered and have been hurt because of a tragedy or a major tribulation in their lives.
On a personal note, at the demise of my dad last 2012, my mom and I felt the world crumble because someone we loved so much was taken away from us. We felt robbed because we were only three in the family and suddenly only two were left. It was the most sorrowful moment in our lives.
"Fortunate are you who weep now, for you will laugh." Through God's grace, mercy and compassion, he gave us our family, loved ones, friends, colleagues, the Semi-conductor & Electronics Industry and the Days With The Lord community to strengthen us and to help us move on. They enriched the lives of Mama and myself and happiness prevailed. In the end, I'm certain that Papa would have wanted us to feel happy and successful in our own endeavors.
Beyond this, we can pay it forward to those who are going through something that we went through. We will be instruments of God to make them see that where God is, there is happiness, mercy and com-passion.
