Wednesday 32nd Week in Ordinary Time

Ti 3: 1-7 / Ps 23: 1b-3a, 3bc-4, 5, 6 / Lk 17: 11-19
Reading: Ti 3: 1-7
Remind the believers to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient and to be ready for every good work. Tell them to insult no one; they must not be quarrelsome but gentle and understanding with everyone. We ourselves were once foolish, disobedient and misled. We were slaves of our desires, seeking pleasures of every kind. We lived in malice and envy, hateful and hating each other. But God our Savior revealed his eminent goodness and love for humankind and saved us, not because of good deeds we may have done but for the sake of his own mercy, to the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit poured over us through Christ Jesus our Savior, so that having been justified of his grace we should become heirs in hope of eternal life.
Gospel: Luke 17: 11-19
On the way to Jerusalem, Jesus was passing along the border between Samaria and Galilee, and as he entered a village, ten lepers came to meet him. Keeping their distance, they called to him, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!" Then Jesus said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." Now, as they went their way, they found they were cured. One of them, as soon as he saw he was cleansed, turned back praising God in a loud voice, and throwing himself on his face before Jesus, he gave him thanks. This man was a Samaritan. Then Jesus said, "Were not all ten healed? Where are the other nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God but this alien?" And Jesus said to him, "Stand up and go your way; your faith has saved you."
Reflection:
Life is full of blessings. We always hear this not only from priests but from a lot of people and yet do we firmly agree? With most of the things or achievements we have we think "I" worked for it that's why "I" have it. Or we may think that what we have, we deserved it. There is no sense of gratitude in us. We pray to God a lot of times for good grades or a good job or a better opportunity and when we do get it, yes we say thank you but when that "good job" comes in, we lose time for prayer or even Sunday mass. We already got what we wanted so we can easily forget God anyway. He'll still be around when we call.
In today's Gospel, ten lepers were made clean but only one, a foreigner, said "thank you." Why? We might think this reading is far from us since we really don't have a problem with leprosy at this time, but when did we ever take time out from our full schedules, sit quietly and just say "God, thank you for the roof over my head that keeps me dry in the rain, and cool from the heat of the sun?" or "God, thank you for the food that I eat three times a day?" or "Lord, thank you for my family and friends that are around me loving me." If we look around us, and start counting the blessings we have received from God, 24 hours in a day will not be enough to count what the Lord has blessed us with.
This Gospel is inviting us strongly to have an attitude of gratitude and that we will start being happy as we give praise to God.
