Friday 33rd Week in Ordinary Time

[Memorial, Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary]

Rv 10: 8-11 / Ps 119: 14, 24, 72, 103, 111, 131 / Lk 19: 45-48 

Reading: Rv 10: 8-11

And the voice I had heard from heaven spoke again, saying to me, "Go near the angel who stands on the sea and on the land, and take the small book open in his hand." So I approached the angel and asked him for the small book; he said to me, "Take it and eat; although it be sweet as honey in your mouth, it will be bitter to your stomach." I took the small book from the hand of the angel, and ate it. It was sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, it turned bitter in my stomach. Then I was told, "You must again proclaim God's words about many peoples, nations, tongues and kings."       

Gospel: Luke 19: 45-48

When Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling. "It is written," he said to them, "'My house will be a house of prayer'; but you have made it 'a den of robbers.'" Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him. Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.

Reflection:

     Our church, God's house, is indeed a house of prayer. One question we must ask ourselves today and sincerely try to answer is this:  How do we regard the church? Do we pray and worship the Lord when we are inside the church? This reading challenges us to review the things we do in the church and how we respond to the things other people do in the church. Do we use our cell phone inside the church? Do we make noise or cause distractions while attending Mass or other liturgical celebrations like baptisms and weddings? Are we brave enough to correct the misbehavior of our family members, and other people inside the church? We must observe decency in our behavior and in the way we dress up when we go to church because we are going there to meet our Lord. 

     Our house can also be an expression of our faith. Is God present in our home? Or have we commercialized our domestic life? How shall we decorate our home this Advent and Christmas seasons? One suggestion is to set up an Advent wreath or a nativity scen. Put Christ in the center especially this Christmas. Wouldn't it be beautiful if all Christians, one way or another show their faith with every season?
