THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD – C

DECEMBER 25, 2012
THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD – C

Is 62:11-12 / Tit 3:4-7 / Lk 2;15-20

ISAIAH 62:11-12
For Yahweh proclaims to the ends of the earth: Say to the daughter of Zion, here comes your salvation! Yahweh brings the reward of his victory, his booty is carried before him. They shall be called the holy people, the redeemed of Yahweh; and you shall be called The Sought After, a city no longer abandoned.

TITUS 3:4-7
But God our Savior revealed his eminent goodness and love for humankind and saved us, not because of good deeds we may have done but for the sake of his own mercy, to the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit poured over us through Christ Jesus our Savior, so that having been justified by his grace we should become heirs in hope of eternal life.

LUKE 2:15-20
When the angels had left them and gone back to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go as far as Bethlehem, and see what the Lord has made known to us." So they came hurriedly, and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. On seeing him they related what they had been told about the child, and all were astonished on hearing the shepherds. As for Mary, she treasured all these words, and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds then returned, giving glory and praise to God for all they had heard and seen, just as the angels had told them.

REFLECTION
Christmas is a time of fellowship with others. We give each other gifts, attend each other's parties, and exchange messages because Christmas seems to be the time when we communicate and wish each other well. Unfortunately, in this season of "sharing" and "communicating," many fall into deep depression and commit suicide, more often than at any other time of year. Amid the season of "togetherness," we feel the most alone, no matter how hard we try to party it away. God knows this all too well.

That is why He sent us the most important form of communication the world has ever known. John called him "The Word" – God's fullest expression of love, our Lord Jesus. Through Jesus, God is able to speak to mankind, offering us a way out of our sin-imposed loneliness.

So when we feel the "Christmas blues," take time away from the parties and spend the time doing fellowship with The Word.
