FEAST, CONVERSION OF ST. PAUL
MONDAY 3RD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR II

ACTS 22:3-16
Then Satan entered into Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was one of the
Twelve. He approached the chief priests and the officers of the guard
to discuss some way of handing Jesus over to them. They were
delighted
and agreed to give him money. He accepted and began to look for an
opportunity to betray him to them without people knowing about it.
The
day of Unleavened Bread came round, on which the Passover had to be
sacrificed, and he sent Peter and John, saying, 'Go and make the
preparations for us to eat the Passover.' They asked him, 'Where do
you want us to prepare it?' He said to them, 'Look, as you go into
the
city you will meet a man carrying a pitcher of water. Follow him into
the house he enters and tell the owner of the house, "The Master says
this to you: Where is the room for me to eat the Passover with my
disciples?" The man will show you a large upper room furnished with
couches. Make the preparations there.' They set off and found
everything as he had told them and prepared the Passover. When the
time came he took his place at table, and the apostles with him. And
he said to them, 'I have ardently longed to eat this Passover with
you
before I suffer; because, I tell you, I shall not eat it until it is
fulfilled in the kingdom of God.'

MARK 16:15-18
And he said to them, 'Go out to the whole world; proclaim the gospel
to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved;
whoever does not believe will be condemned. These are the signs that
will be associated with believers: in my name they will cast out
devils; they will have the gift of tongues; they will pick up snakes
in their hands and be unharmed should they drink deadly poison; they
will lay their hands on the sick, who will recover.'

REFLECTION
Today we celebrate the conversion of St. Paul, the apostle. He was a
person of great dedication and is capable of pursuing an ideal with a
complete disregard for the cost. He was educated in Jerusalem by
Gamaliel who gave him a strong foundation in religious doctrine of
the
school of Pharisees. He refuses any compromise with matters of God.
That is why it is understandable that he became the bitter persecutor
of the infant church. He also played some part in the martyrdom of
Stephen.

On the road to Damascus through a vision, the Risen Christ opened
Paul's mind to the truth of Christian faith and he was chosen to be
the apostle of the pagans. With the same zeal Paul started to preach
and serve passionately and selflessly for Christ. Nothing stopped him
from this mission — hard work, exhaustion, danger of death, poverty.
He welcomed these since they helped him grow into the image of the
suffering and crucified Master.

What is the significance of this feast for us? God calls anyone even
an assassin to become His witness. We don't have to travel far to
announce Jesus Christ. We can bring Christ to our family, in our work
places, school and friends. Allow the Lord to use our talents,
intelligence even weakness for the greater glory of God.
